Through the GD VeeKompas concept the Dutch Animal Health Service (GD), as a second-line veterinary knowledge centre and veterinary laboratory, is strengthening its ties with the veterinary practices. Via courses and workshops GD provides practitioners with guidance on paid veterinary advisory services concerning infectious diseases and herd-related disorders in dairy cattle. This includes both specifically veterinary matters and consulting skills and marketing of veterinary advisory services. AgriCommunicatie was closely involved in developing the concept and the materials. This involved producing a large amount of material aimed at flagging up veterinary issues to dairy farmers, setting up 'study clubs' and knowledge sharing within the veterinary practice.
